Monaco (P.ty), Wednesday 13 October – WES is back to Spain for the Castelldefels-Barcelona Round Presented by Raspini, the final round of the year, as per the tradition started back in 2019. The last event of this incredible 2021 racing season will once again take place in Castelldefels, near the Catalan capital city. This time the Paddock will be set-up in the area of the beautiful Castle overlooking the small town on the coast.
Next Saturday 16 October the protagonists will ride a one-shot race format for the Grand Finale and will witness the awaited end-season Prize-Giving Ceremony. The first-ever UCI E-MTB World Cup Winners will finally be awarded in the following categories:
• World Cup Women’s and Men’s Winner
• Winning Team
• WES Holeshot Women’s and Men’s Winner
• Magneti Marelli Checkstar Power Lap Women’s and Men’s Winner
The racetrack designed for the last episode of the series is 3.6 km in length, covering 7 laps for a total distance of 25.2 km and a total climbing of 910 metres.
Local woman rider Sandra Santanyes (Trek), who took the double at the last Costa Brava-Girona Round will get to Castelldefels thirsty for victory and will fight for the highest step of the podium against WES standings leader and 2020 World Champ Mélanie Pugin (BH), whose goal is to smoothly clinch the title from her position. The Swiss Kathrin Stirnemann (Thömus) makes her return to WES racing and the paddock looks forward to seeing the German Sofia Wiedenroth (Specialized) coming back from her recent injury and battling for a second place overall.
Reigning World Champion Monsieur Jérôme Gilloux (Moustache) is coming to Spain leading the standings by 22 points over the Swiss Joris Ryf (Bergstrom) with 25 available to the race winner so, the fight for the title is all open. Théo Charmes (Cube) will defend his current third place from the Corsican Cecce Camoin (Specialized) and the Flying Dutchman Jeroen van Eck (American Eagle), recently crowned Eliminator World Cup Winner, right there in Barcelona.
Among the Spaniards – 18 entries in this round, between Men and Women –Ismael Esteban (BH), delighted by his third place in Race 2 at Girona will come to WES Castelldefels-Barcelona to try to make it again against other popular names, such as permanent rider, the Honduran Spanish-based Milton Ramos (Rockrider). Carlos Checa, World Superbike Champion and former MotoGP racer will come back after his challenging experience in the last round.
The race paddock will be open to public and the Ride WES, the Amateur Randonnée will once again take place at Castelldefels. For the spectators delight, 10-time BikeTrial World Champ Dani Comas will be performing at the paddock, a can’t miss!
